Built and Installed in an illegal mining town in the Amazon [Huepetuhe] Heavy Metals is a device which elevated an already existing statue of a gold miner to an angelic silhouette using six Metal-halide lamps on automated wings.
Mercury vapor due to mining procedures remains the most detrimental environmental concern in the area despite the vast deforestation. The electrical lamps used produce light by an electric arc through a gaseous mixture of vaporized mercury and mechanically rise and fall simulating the evaporation and condensation of mercury vapor from gold amalgam into the environment.
